An Invitation

"Come with us, and we will treat you well!"

The Scriptures tell us that God chose a powerful leader named Moses to deliver the twelve tribes of Israel out of slavery in Egypt and to lead them on a journey to Canaan, the Promised Land. Early in his adulthood, Moses married a Midianite girl and tended sheep for her father. As the tribes began the long and demanding trek through territory that was unfamiliar to him, Moses called upon his father in-law, who spent his life in that terrain, to be their guide.

"Come with us, and we will treat you well," was his ivitation. "Moreover, if you go with us, whatever good the Lord does for us, the same we will do for you."*

Like Christians everywhere and in every age, the West Barre congregation knows itself to be a people on a journey, under the care of our powerful Lord Jesus, who is leading us toward a promised land and eternal kingdom of his own fashioning. We invite you to share the journey with us, enjoying His presence and blessings along the way. God has been very good to us throughout the generations since our founding in 1832. And the things with which God continues to bless us we gladly offer you. Perhaps some of these will become apparent to you, as you come to know us. And just perhaps you will discover what you personally are looking for in your relationship with the Heavenly Father.

But it's not all about what we can do for you; we'll value your companionship and the strengths and talents you bring to enrich our lives. As Moses said to his father in-law, "You will serve as eyes for us." You, with your own set of circumstances, will help us to see and to respond to the ways in which we can be effective in serving the community in which we have been planted. We have long since learned that we cannot hoard God's blessings and continue to receive them. The Lord Jesus has tought us to love God with all our hearts and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. We welcome you as a neighbor, and we invite you to journey with us. With United Methodists everywhere, we strive to offer "Open hearts, open minds, open doors."
